JULIE BASS, PSY.D.
Child and Adult Psychotherapy
Licensed Psychologist PSY29601
I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY29601) who works with children, adolescents and adults. I studied and trained as a Psychologist both in France and in the United States.
As a immigrant, I am sensitive to how differences impact the way we relate to ourselves and others depending on the context.
I use a psychodynamic framework to think with you about the meaning of your struggles. In a nutshell, it means that I am interested in your life story and the way you talk about it. I believe that past relationships shape how we are in present ones, that we are not aware of certain of our motivations and that the therapeutic relationship is a lever for change.
PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) Clinical Psychology, The Wright Institute, Berkeley, CA
M.Sc. (Master of Science) Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology, University Rene Descartes, Paris V, Paris, France
In the U.S., I completed my Predoctoral internship and Post doctoral fellowship at the Access Institute for Psychological Services and trained at the Ann Martin Center.
In France, I interned at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, the Hotel Dieu, Inpatient Unit and the Public Establishment for Mental Health Ville-Evrard among others.
Entering into a therapeutic process can be compared to traveling to another country. Each experience is unique, it takes time to feel at home, and it’s often more fulfilling accompanied by a local.
SERVICES I OFFER
PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH ADULTS
I believe that psychotherapy provides an opportunity to slow down and dig out an intimate space to attend to one’s thoughts and emotions. Working together, we can explore your roadblocks from different angles, surmont them or create alternative paths. In my experience, there is often no easy and straightforward answer to one’s suffering, feeling of emptiness or confusion. Psychotherapy can offer the conditions for staying curious about the messiness of our complicated minds and develop more satisfying solutions. In this process, one may be able to unearth inner resources, tolerate limitations as well as increase flexibility and capacity to enjoy life.
I tailor my interventions to your history, your environment and your current difficulties. My style is approachable and playful while being thoughtful.
PLAY THERAPY WITH CHILDREN
Children express themselves in various of modalities. In therapy, we use play as the medium to access their world and support them in developing new solutions to their difficulties. I work closely with each child's caregivers and consult with their school when needed.
FEE AND INSURANCE
Please call to discuss my current fee. If it exceeds what you can afford, we can discuss reduced-fee hours depending on your resources and availability.
I do not accept direct payment from insurance. However, if you have a health savings plan or health insurance plan that allows you to choose an out-of-network provider I can provide you the necessary documentation to seek reimbursement.
